Philharmonia
The
Philharmonia Orchestra is open to woodwinds and strings
and consists of
approximately 50 musicians. Winds participating in the Philharmonia
Orchestra are also part of the Philharmonia Wind Ensemble,
conducted by Lara Jean O'Connor. This ensemble
performs on each concert separately in addition to their
performance pieces with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Charles Lee, Philharmonia Orchestra Conductor
Dr. Charles C. Lee received a bachelors degree in composition/piano from the Eastman School of Music
where he studied conducting from David Effron. After receiving a masters degree in cello performance
at Temple University under Jeffrey Solow, he moved to Boulder to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree
under Judith Glyde and the members of Takacs Quartet at the University of Colorado, which he completed
in 2004. Dr. Lee has been a finalist at the Toho-Gakuen conducting seminar in Tokyo, Japan receiving
instruction from Maestro Myung-Whun Chung. Dr. Lee has been principal cellist of the Boulder Philharmonic
Orchestra since 1998, and principal cellist of the Colorado Ballet Orchestra since 2001. He regularly
performs with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and also performs frequently as both a soloist and in small
ensembles. Dr. Lee is currently serving as instructor of cello at Regis University.
Jerome Fleg, Philharmonia Wind Ensemble
Conductor
Jerome is a doctoral candidate at CU Boulder, and has Undergraduate degrees from the Peabody Conservatory
and Masters degree from UNC. As a clarinetist, he is a member of the Central City Opera and performs
regularly with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
