2020-2021 COVID/Rehearsal and Concert Updates

Thank you for your patience as CYSO has been figuring out new protocols and policies given the world we now find ourselves in. Please know, everything we can do within state guidelines to provide a meaningful and fun musical experience, we will do! While we do not have the answers to everything, we thought it prudent to share with you what we know and what we don't yet know in the hopes you will find it helpful and reassuring.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

To start, we would like to answer some frequently asked questions we have received in the last few months.

  • Will CYSO be starting in the fall? Yes! CYSO will be starting Monday September 21st with two weeks of virtual content in small zoom groups. In-person rehearsals will begin on Monday October 5th at our NEW REHEARSAL VENUE, 571 Galapago Street, Denver, CO 80204. This building is the French Language school, the Alliance Francaise building.  CYSO will be rehearsing in very small groups that rotate by the hour this Fall to keep students and staff safe and healthy. There will be NO CHAIR TESTS this semester. We are in it for all the fun! Students will rotate positions. There will be no mandatory parent meeting. All parent information will be sent by email and available on our website.

  • What happens if there is a second wave of the virus? In the event of a second wave of the virus, CYSO has online content ready to go to our CYSO musicians. We will offer a variety of choices such as improvisation workshop, music theory, improving sight-reading skills project, not to mention instrument specific masterclasses online with musicians from the Dallas Symphony, Utah Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Dallas Opera, and the Colorado Symphony to name a few. You can choose the virtual option at any time and stay home if you feel like it. It is your choice!

  • What will tuition cost this year? CYSO tuition will be a flat $550 fee for the year. There will be no parent volunteer dues charged/or duties to perform this year..(you're welcome) Your only additional cost will be a $20 t-shirt for the Nuggets game (televised if needed).

  • Information for current CYSO members: If you were a member of  CYSO for the 2019-2020 season last year, here is what you need to know: No auditions, no videos, no audition fees, no stress. We just want you back and start making music together again.  If you would like to join us for Fall 2020 please email Michelle Orman, Executive Director: "Name of student will be joining CYSO fall 2020"  It's that simple!  If you were in last years orchestra and would like to move up to the next level please email a video to Michelle Orman, no audition fee required.

  • New students to CYSO:  new students interested in joining us must fill out an audition request form, email a video to us, no audition fee required. Detailed info can be found on this website under the audition tab. We promise you will have a good time. (Go Denver Nuggets!) CYSO will be performing at a January Nuggets game.

  • Will scholarships and payment plans be available? Absolutely! We know that everyone is facing a challenging year and there will be more scholarships available then ever before. Don't be shy or let money keep you from joining us for a great year. Payment plans will consist of smaller payments throughout the year.  As always our accounts manager, Cedra Kuehn, can make a payment plan happen for you to fit your needs. She can be contacted at cysocedra@gmail.com

  • What will concerts be like? November Concert: Your safety and health is our main concern at CYSO. I feel a concert at the Pinnacle Charter Auditorium is not a prudent idea considering current circumstances. Instead CYSO will present a livestream facebook concert so even extended families across the country can watch this concert on Monday night, November 23rd. The Philharmonia will perform, leave the room, the Wind Ensemble will perform, leave the room, Spectrum Ensemble will perform, leave the room, and then the Symphony will perform. This will be a fun concert and everybody will stay safe.
