GRALAND COUNTRY DAY STRING INSTRUMENT PROGRAM

The CYSO is proud to present the Graland string instrument program.

This preparatory music program offers string instruction, music history, and music theory for all aspiring string musicians at Graland Country Day School. 

This CYSO music program offers training for beginning and continuing ensemble players, with emphasis on counting, note reading, rhythm, music theory, music history, and ear training. 

 

Tuition fees for the Graland Country Day string instrument programs are $625 per year. 

 

Each semester will end with a performance by the students in the program. Please see program descriptions below:

 

 

CYSO Preperatory Chamber Orchestra 

Wednesdays: Starting September 18, 2019

Times: 7:15-8:00 AM

Location: GN16

Requirements: No Previous Experience Required!

Grades 3-8

The Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra is pleased to partner with Graland Country Day School to offer before-school string orchestra for the 2019-20 school year. Learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass under professional musicians in the CYSO staff.

The CYSO Preparatory Program gives young musicians a head start for success in orchestral ensembles. The program puts an emphasis on music theory, rhythm, counting, note reading and ear training to provide students with a solid musical foundation while learning to play fun and challenging music. No previous experience is required! We will teach you everything you need to know. Each year ends with an exciting concert by the students.

The Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra is pleased to partner with Graland Country Day School to offer a new after-school string class for younger students interested in learning to play the violin. Professional musicians in the CYSO staff will focus on music theory, rhythm, counting, note reading and ear training to provide students with a solid musical foundation while learning to play fun and challenging music in a group lesson environment. No previous experience is required! We will teach you everything you need to know. Each year ends with an exciting recital by the students and a chance to join the CYSO Preperatory Chamber Orchestra in their final concert.

MELISSA HEMBREE, CELLIST AND PROGRAM STRING TEACHER

Michigan native Melissa Hembree started cello at age 3, won her first competition in 7th grade, and played in a Yo-Yo Ma master class and soloed with the Grosse Pointe Symphony during her senior year in high school. She holds a Bachelor’s in Cello Performance from Indiana University, where she studied with Emilio Colon. In Houston, Texas she was Low String Specialist for the La Porte School District and Assistant Orchestra Director at Woodcreek Middle School, where she taught technique and repertoire to 180 beginning and intermediate string students. She moved to Denver in July, 2015 and opened a private cello studio serving the Littleton/Lakewood area.
