Meet CYSO’s Board President Shawn Coleman!

Shawn is serving his second term as President and has been on the board of directors for eight years. During his tenure and with the leadership of Executive Director Michelle Orman, the organization has distinguished itself as the premiere arts institution for Denver and Front Range young musicians, offering performance opportunities for Orchestral and Chamber Music for students in all ensembles with the support and instruction of our nurturing staff.

As a graduate of the first class of Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program, Mr. Coleman is particularly proud of CYSO’s commitment to community outreach. Our Mile-High Strings Program provides introductory instruction to students across the metro area while our music theory program enhance the musical offerings of area schools and our Elite Spectrum Ensemble provides opportunities for performance in varied locations from the State Capitol to Prague.

Shawn is a public affairs and business development consultant and studied Clarinet Performance at Oberlin College, The Juilliard School and Graduate School of the University of Colorado. He spent 5 seasons as Principal Clarinet of the Wyoming Symphony and continues to teach Clarinet at the Junior Session of Kinhaven Music School, a summer Chamber Music program in Weston, Vermont. Mr. Coleman resides in Boulder where he writes for the Editorial Board of the Boulder Daily Camera and serves on the Colorado State Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and has been appointed to the Colorado Limited Gaming Commission by Governor Jared Polis.
